Download Minecraft: choosing your edition

Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition have different ecosystems. Before downloading a launcher, map or mod, check which edition your friends and server use. A Java mod does not automatically work in Bedrock.

Get the launcher from the official Minecraft download page and sign in with your Microsoft account. Installing the launcher does not itself grant a game license. Use the edition and game version required by the server you plan to join.

Keep separate installations for different modpacks. This makes it easier to test a new pack without changing an existing world. Copy important saves before changing versions.
