What datapacks change in a Java world

Datapacks add or replace data used by Minecraft Java Edition. Depending on the pack, they can define recipes, loot, functions or world-generation data. Their compatibility is tied to the game’s supported pack format.

Install a datapack in the appropriate world’s datapacks folder according to its instructions. Check that the archive contains the pack files at the expected level instead of an extra wrapper folder. Test it in a copy of the world before using it in an established save.

World-generation packs deserve extra care: removing one later may leave the world dependent on data it supplied. Keep a backup made before installation and record which pack release you used.
